Overview :
During 2024, I took part in the Emotional Game Jam 2024 as a programmer, integrator and sound designer. My team consisted of three 3D artists. The game runs on Unreal Engine 5. The themes were "Not everyone who wanders is lost" on the first day and "Not everyone can be saved" on the second. We made the game in 48 hours, and here's the final version, reworked with a few extra days of work. It's a psychological journey into the past of a former astronaut consumed by the past after a serious spacecraft accident in which his 4 colleagues lost their lives.
Storyline :Benjamin Sovost is a former astronaut plunged into a deep depression after a terrible accident during a mission. He was the only one to survive the accident, losing 4 colleagues who were also his family. His goal was to get out of this painful phase. So he fights a battle in his head against the traumas of his past. He has to face up to them, accept them and move on.
Gameplay Aspects : Game : The aim is to recover from panic attacks and memories. The game ends once the player has reached the end of the road.Player : The player can advance, but only step by step, and will have to do so continuously if he remains static for too long, returning to the very beginning. He can also react to panic attacks and memories. Along the way, the player's heart speeds up, and this is felt as feedback in the controller. With each step, his oxygen level drops.
Panic Attacks : The player faces panic attacks in the form of QTEs. If he succeeds, he can continue, otherwise he returns to the very beginning.
Memories : The player must face his memories and take a deep breath to move forward. If he succeeds, he can continue, otherwise he returns to the beginning. Accepting the memory allows the player to regain oxygen to move forward.
